Exploring various - legal - forest tracks in summer with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, meadows, streams and butterflies. Roads are mainly loose rocks with steep ascents and descents, so caution and patience is required, as is low gear, although locked differentials were not needed. The roads were wide enough for my Land Cruiser 120 and the ruts were not too deep, so decent ground clearance is enough for most parts.
N.B. various signs warned of danger, e.g. falling rocks, and I could imagine wet conditions making the track 'difficult' rather than 'moderate'. Also: probably impossible when it snows, as locals have told me the municipality will not clear the snow on these forest tracks.
Also, the track can be expanded upon, for example in the almost abandoned town of Monthion, where another track leads up and possibly across the mountain. In a few places I turned around because the road got too steep/rocky for my taste, but perhaps a better equipped or more experienced driver could continue. Je confirme en hiver très très difficile de monter et voir carrément impossible sur le dernier kilomètre car 20cm de neige/glace en pente
Route des Grasse avec de gros trous blocage de différentiel 4 roue obligatoire a certain endroit

Modéré en été et passé a niveaux très difficile en hiver car 10cm de boue bien grasse de gros trous et sur la fin 20cm de neige/glace en pente
Itiniraire très sympa et sans difficulté particulière (en ce moment et par temps sec) avec un Pajero en mode 4x4 simple. Pas mal de départs de randonnées pour les marcheurs. j'ai passé une nuit sur place, vraiment très calme.
Une éleveuse de moutons a installé une barrière au début de la piste pour contenir son troupeau mais elle n'est pas verrouillée.
Par contre la route forestière du Monthion est actuellement fermée pour cause d'affaissement de la piste.
La piste qui mène vers les Granges est quant à elle interdite à la circulation jusqu'en hiver à partir de l'Echaut.

Très sympa et possible un petit bivouac au sommet de la piste aux granges. Par contre ne pas continuer après la barrière sur la piste de la vieille route il y a un arrêté. Merci de le respecter, la balade peut se finir a pied jusqu'au châlet de la vieille route sans difficulté.
