Stairway Falls Loop via Bullant Spur

There is many occasion in my youth that I proceeded down the trail to blue pools and then took the Rocky creek extension to Stairway Falls. This route what's always a one-way route. With the addition of Bullant Spur the trip becomes a loop with the eturn via the Blue pool track.

Starting from O'Reilly's the track precedes along the road until you reach the point where there is a parking area and Bull Ant Spur joins with the main Lamington national Park road. Be very careful inviting At the entrance I noticed there are many incorrect tracks coming from the start. Understand that a spur is a high point between two low points unless you are on the apex of the hill you will be off track. The most prominent tracks seem to head down towards Bundoomba creek. Avoid them.

The trial precedes down the spur across many fallen logs which may require diversion. The area down the hill is dominated by bullants so you may get stung. Following the trail down the spur you will eventually hit the Blue pool track. At the junction turn left and follow to Blue Pools.

The old Stairway Falls track in many places has disappeared from here on so expect to have to rock hop sections. I would avoid the vegetation to the sides of West Canungra creek. It is predominantly vine and stinging tree.

The creek will wind back and forth and eventually end up at Stairway Falls. After having a break proceed back the way you came to Blue Pools. From Blue pools you take the Blue pool track back up the hill to where I joins with the border track just before getting back to the start point.

On the section from Blue pool to Stairway Falls we saw many snakes who essentially come to sunbake during the day where there is a break in the canopy. Also to pick up a feed from the rodents and marsupials coming to drink during the day.

On the return journey you'll see lots of waterfalls especially round Darrabulla creek. Please note the elevation gain of this hike. Significant off-track sections involving both navigation and rock hopping expertise is included. Definitely a full day activity.
